“It [the world] dictates no terms to man. We and our world interpenetrate. If anything, the world exists for us, and we exist for ourselves. It is only in assuming full responsibility for our world, for our lives and for ourselves, that we can be said to live really for God.” Choosing To Love The World, pg 10, by Thomas Merton.
In Genesis it is stated that we were made from the earth (some cultures call the earth their mother) and that we were given dominion over it to take care of it. Also, God breathe into us His Spirit and gave us life. We are part of all His Creation. Jesus taught us to love God with our whole being and our neighbor as ourselves (is hating someone hating our self?).
Sometimes we ask why God allows things. Does that contradict His giving us dominion over the earth? Doesn’t He allow us to do anything we want? We find God in ourselves. It is so important to spend a little time alone each day thinking about God within us and what that means to us. We are called “the priesthood of believers,” right? We should let no one else tell us what God wants us to do. Only we can know by listening to Him who lives in our being. -mackie
