I think its unbelievable that things can’t get done without pork spending. Here we are with over 8% unemployment, and people losing jobs. That just shows the greed that is there no matter what issue congress is dealing with. I was talking with another Christian brother last night about the issues. We brought up the issue that; a lot of athiest and the rest of the world believe that the Bible can’t relate to the issues of today. What’s ironic is that everything that our country stuggles with,homosexual,sex,greed, racism etc. all existed in the biblical time. “There’s nothing new under the sun.” At the same time our founding fathers did the best they could to set up the constitution under biblical standards. I was reading a passage today out of a daily positive thinking book. It starts off with LEVITICUS 19:1-2. Then says “Think what might be accomplished in the United States if only a few of the best young people among us would have the revolutionary spirit their forefathers had and would determine, This great fair land shall not be destroyed. We’ll make it clean, so that high leadership for the future may be certain and sure. If all the men and women in this country who profess belief in God would live clean lives and would set those lives against the decay of our time, they would be contributing to a moral revolution. That is what built this country’s splendor, power and prestige” I didn’t mean to make i t this long, but I thought it was important.

WE HAVE GONE THE OPPOSITE OF OUR WELL READ, EDUCATED FOREFATHERS WHO I BELIEVE WERE INSPIRED BY THE ETERNAL ULTIMATE OF ALL WISDOM TO LEAD US TO BE THE SOURCE OF “GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR, YOUR HUDDLED MASSES TO BE FREE” TO A MAJORITY OF OUR CITIZENS REJECTING EDUCATING THEMSELVES, TO TRUST AND BELIEVE IN IDIOTIC SNAKE OIL SELLING POLITICIANS, PREACHERS, STOCK BROKERS, ETC. Member projects – aka earmarks or “pork” – account for less than 2 percent of spending in the $410 billion omnibus bill on the floor of the Senate this week, but they’re drawing most of the opposition fire.

The bill, which will fund government for the balance of the 2009 fiscal year, includes 8,570 earmarks worth $7.7 billion, according to a new report by Taxpayers for Common Sense in Washington.

“I just went through a campaign where both candidates promised change in Washington; promised change from the wasteful, disgraceful, corrupting practice of earmark, pork-barrel spending,” said Sen. John McCain in a stem-winder on the floor of the Senate on Monday.

“We have former members of Congress residing in federal prisons. Not only is this business as usual, but this is an outrageous insult to the American people,” said the Arizona Republican.

At issue is more than just the dollar amount of spending, critics say. The time and effort to secure earmarks for 1 or 2 percent of government spending take up time that members could better spend on the hard work of overseeing the other 98 percent-plus. Moreover, the success of some groups in securing earmarks encourages others to spend scarce public dollars to pay to lobby Washington.
