In this short but increasingly horrifying segment on the growth of what some have called the US Christian Taliban, prominent evangelistFrank Schaeffer tells us why the rhetoric of the religious right is dramatically increasing the likelihood of assassination attempts on President Obama. It’s just been revealed that people are marketing t-shirts and bumper stickers that promote Psalms 109.8, which says “Let his days be few, and let another take his office”, and is followed by Psalms 109.9: “Let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow”!! I agree with Schaefer that it’s time to speak up against this kind of stuff. I am far from an uncritical supporter of the president, but this is crossing what should be an uncrossable line, and the people doing it are also like those who wanted to deny people of color in their segregated places, and women subservient in the home, and the killing of gays and pro-abortionists. If you can justify killing our president in the name of the Bible, you can justify killing anyone. If he can be killed in the name of the Bible, we all can.
Very disturbing. Christians need to follow the teachings of Christ, and not justify their own evil by using that book too many of them worship.
