SEARCHING FOR TRUTH RESOLVES CONFLICTS……

The Big Bang itself is a scientific theory, and as such stands or falls by its agreement with observations.[2] But as a theory which addresses the origins of reality it carries theological implications regarding the concept of creation ex nihilo (a Latin phrase meaning “out of nothing”).[3][4][5] In addition, many theologians and physicists have viewed the Big Bang as implicating theism;[6][7] a popular philosophical argument for the existence of God known as the Kalām cosmological argument rests in the concepts of the Big Bang.[8][9] In the 1920s and 1930s almost every major cosmologist preferred an eternal steady state Universe, and several complained that the beginning of time implied by the Big Bang imported religious concepts into physics; this objection was later repeated by supporters of the steady state theory,[10] who rejected the implication that the universe had a beginning.[11][12]

Pope Pius XIIdeclared, at the November 22, 1951, opening meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, that the Big Bang theory does not conflict with the Catholic concept of creation.[13][14] Conservative ProtestantChristian denominationshave also welcomed the Big Bang theory as supporting a historical interpretation of the doctrine of creation.[15]

MORE SOLDIERS COMMITTED SUICIDE THAN KILLED….

For the second year (2010) in a row, more US soldiers killed themselves (468) than died in combat (462).

http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/266-32/10228-more-us-soldiers-committed-suicide-than-died-in-combat

MORE SOLDIERS COMMITTED SUICIDE THAN WERE KILLED. Must continue gradual withdrawal of troops as we train Afgn troops like we are doing in Iraq
To rush would cause TREMENDOUS TRAGEDY, WAR AND TOTAL COLLAPSE OF WORLD ECONOMY….
We need a steady that continues gradual progess, AS THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WANT……..
“If you… know the one thing that causes people to commit suicide, please let us know,”
General Peter Chiarelli told the Army Times, “because we don’t know.”
Suicide is a tragic but predictable human reaction to being asked to kill – and watch your friends be killed – particularly when it’s for a war based on lies. Perhaps being required to bag the mangled flesh of fellow soldiers could be another reason that some are committing suicide.

Body Bagging… ever heard the term? Marines in the Corps’s Mortuary Affairs unit at Camp Al Taqaddum, Iraq, are assigned the job of collecting and cataloging the bodies of dead Marines. They sift through the remains and effects, from prom photos to suicide notes and love letters, and put them into a bag, then into a metal box and then into a refrigerator to await the flight home. One soldier, Jess Goodell, recounts a Marine brought into the unit still breathing. She frantically called to her superiors, who replied simply, “Wait.” She watched while he died. When she returned to the US, Goodell, like many others, was diagnosed with deep depression, substance abuse, PTSD and anxiety.

THE FAITH OF SCIENTISTS…

Albert Einstein

Image via Wikipedia

“Science without religion is lame;

religion without science is blind.”

~Einstein.

“A religion, old or new, that stressed the magnificence

of the universe as revealed by modern science,

might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe

tapped by the conventional faiths.

Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge.”

-Carl Sagan

If we truly believe that God created the heavens, the earth, and all that is in it;

doesn’t it make sense to study and take care of it?

EINSTEIN’S GOD

CONVERSATIONS ABOUT GOD AND THE HUMAN SPIRIT

Tippett describes religion and science as “pursuits of cohesive knowledge and underlying truths” and seeks to dispel the erroneous assumption that these two realms of inquiry are in opposition.

Tippett looks to Einstein’s “self-described ‘cosmic religious sense’” as a key example of how spiritual insights deepen the resonance of scientific discoveries and vice versa. As listeners to her Peabody Award–winning radio program, Speaking of Faith, know,

Tippett is driven by a genuine hunger for understanding of how the revelations of religious traditions, spiritual practices, and cutting-edge findings in science and medicine can help us live more giving and fulfilling lives and create a less polarized society. Tippett sparks a mind-expanding synergy by gathering 13 far-reaching and often-moving discussions with luminaries working in an array of disciplines, including physicist Freeman Dyson, Darwin scholar James Moore, and surgeons and writers Sherwin Nuland and Mehmet Oz.

Impressively well informed, thoughtful, intrepid, and articulate, Tippett steadfastly pilots her ardent conversations toward an elegant clarity, ensuring that complex concepts are comprehensible and relevant to everyone. –Donna Seaman

KAREN ARMSTRONG STATES A ‘CASE FOR GOD’

A former nun, Karen Armstrong left her convent in the late 1960s, and for 13 years she distanced herself from organized religion. She ended up working in television, and on an assignment in Jerusalemshe had a kind of epiphany about the similarities among the major world religions. It was the study of those religions that allowed her to revisit her own faith.

Armstrong published her first book, Through the Narrow Gate, in 1982. Twenty-seven years and more than 20 books later — including the best-selling A History of God — Armstrong releases her latest book, The Case for God. In it, she argues that religion is a practical discipline that teaches us to discover new capacities of the mind and heart.

WHO ARE YOU FOLLOWING? WHO OR WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IN?

WHO ARE YOUR LEADERS? PREACHERS? TEACHERS? POLITICIANS? GURUS? DOCTORS?

WHAT IS THEIR MOTIVATION? IS IT PRIDE, IMPRESSING OTHERS, BEING ADMIRED, WANTING MORE POWER, AUTHORITY, MONEY?

WHAT DOES YOUR PREACHER WANT OF YOU?  To become a believer?  To trust him in what he/she says?  To believe in the Bible or to believe in God?  To at least bring your offering every week so his salary can be raised?  If you can’t, send it?  To build a large and prosperous church that he will be given credit for and gloat in?  Maybe have his own radio and television station?

OR COULD IT BE THAT HE WAS CALLED TO STUDY ALL THE ANCIENT SCRIPTURES, HUMAN NATURE, THE UNIVERSE, SCIENCE, AND SHARE WITH YOU HOW HE IS FINDING GOD SO THAT YOU CAN BE SHARING IT WITH OTHERS?  MORE THAN THAT; HE DOESN’T WANT TO BE THE MIDDLE MAN BETWEEN YOU AND GOD.  HE WANTS YOU TO BE AT ONE WITH GOD, NOT HIM.  HE DOESN’T WORRY ABOUT MONEY OR BUILDING A PHYSICAL CHURCH.  HE SEES IN YOU THE REAL CHURCH AND BY THE POWER OF HIS SPIRIT THAT WHEREVER YOU ARE GOD IS.

No matter what your belief or faith, religion or no religion; if you sense the presence of the ultimate cause of you and the entire universe and, out of your gratitude to that Spirit, you assume and want to take care of all that this Spirit (humans and nature) created, YOU ARE ON THE HIGHEST PLANE OF LIFE AND WILL SURVIVE AND OVERCOME ALL YOUR PROBLEMS AND LIVE FOREVER WITH THAT SPIRIT.

USING THIS SAME STANDARD, EVALUATE THOSE YOU BELIEVE IN AND FOLLOW, OK?  GOD WANTS TO BE WITH YOU PERSONALLY (this Spirit is already with you, you just have to be aware); NOT THROUGH A MIDDLE MAN.

I heard of an old farmer who for years had difficulty leading his hogs from the pin to the slaughter house.  One day he came up with the idea, “Hey, they loved sweet corn.  If I throw the corn out gradually from the pin to the slaughter house they will still think I love and am nourishing them, eat along the way without realizing it end up in the slaughter house.”

It worked.

Helping Christians Reconcile God With Science

For many young Christians, the moment they first notice discrepancies in the Biblical tales they’ve faithfully studied is a rite of passage: e.g., if Adam and Eve were the first humans, and they had two sons — where did Cain’s wife come from? The revelation that everything in the Bible may not have happened exactly as written can be startling. And when the discovery comes along with scientific evidence of evolution and the actual age of planet Earth, it can prompt a full-blown spiritual crisis.

That’s where Francis Collins would like to step in. A renowned geneticist and former director of the Human Genome Project, Collins is also an evangelical Christian who was the keynote speaker at the 2007 National Prayer Breakfast, and he has spent years establishing the compatibility between science and religious belief. And this week he unveiled a new initiative to guide Christians through scientific questions while holding firm to their faith. (Finding God on YouTube)

After his best-selling The Language of God came out three years ago, Collins began receiving thousands of e-mails — primarily from other Evangelicals — asking questions about how to reconcile scriptural teachings with scientific evidence. “Many of these Christians have been taught that evolution is wrong,” Collins explains. “They go to college and get exposed to data, and then they’re thrust into personal crises of great intensity. If the church was wrong about the origins of life, was it wrong about everything? Some of them walk away from science or faith — or both.”
