Facebook Password Amendment Rejected by Congress….

(Many loyal Republicans fear Democrats might take over House because of Tea Party)

“The amendment was deemed unnecessary by the Republicans, and was voted down 236 to 184. Only one House Republican voted in support of the amendment, while only two House Democrats voted against the amendment. Republicans argued that while the proposed legislation wouldn’t help the situation, they were willing to work on new legislation in the future.”

The House of Representatives has rejected an effort to give the Federal Communications Commission the power to stop employers from asking job applicants for their password to Facebook and other social networking sites.

The effort was an amendment, proposed by Representative Ed Perlmutter of Colorado, added to legislation to reform the FCC.

“What this amendment does is it says that you cannot demand, as a condition of employment, that somebody reveal a confidential password to their Facebook, to their Flickr, to their Twitter, whatever their account may be,” Perlmutter said during a speech on the House floor.

The amendment would have added the following paragraph to the Federal Communications Commission Process Reform Act of 2012:

“Nothing in this Act or any amendment made by this Act shall be construed to limit or restrict the ability of the Federal Communications Commission to adopt a rule or to amend an existing rule to protect online privacy, including requirements in such rule that prohibit licensees or regulated entities from mandating that job applicants or employees disclose confidential passwords to social networking websites.”

The amendment was deemed unnecessary by the Republicans, and was voted down 236 to 184. Only one House Republican voted in support of the amendment, while only two House Democrats voted against the amendment. Republicans argued that while the proposed legislation wouldn’t help the situation, they were willing to work on new legislation in the future.

PARTY-BACKED REPUBLICANS DEFEAT TEA PARTY….

Romney Secures GOP Nod in Primary

Party-backed Republicans easily defeat Tea Party candidates to be delegates to their national convention.
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney took a big step in his quest to secure the GOP nomination with a five-state sweep on Tuesday, including a landslide victory in the Pennsylvania primary.
Romney easily outdistanced his opponents among Pennsylvania Republicans with 58 percent of the vote. Among Bucks County voters, the former Massachusetts governor also won big, securing 27,532 votes for 66.6 percent.
As of midnight, 9,165 out of 9,260 districts (98.97%) were reporting statewide while in Bucks County, 302 of the 304 districts have been counted.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum‘s (R-Pa.) decision to drop out of the race a few weeks ago handed Romney an expected victory in the primary. Despite dropping out of the race on April 10, Santorum was running second statewide with 18.4 percent of the vote. In Bucks County, Ron Paul finished second with 13.4 percent of the vote and Santorum was third at 11.6 percent.

Taxes at Lowest Level in 60 Years

I’m sure the teabaggers in DC today will be thanking Obama and the Democratic Congress for overcoming GOP obstructionism and lowering taxes to their lowest level in 60 years?

“The American people need to be reminded that 98 percent of Americans got a tax cut last year,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday.

Reid was referring to the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, otherwise known as the stimulus — essentially, the only Obama policy to really impact people’s 2009 tax returns. In fact, tax refunds reached an all-time high this year in part because of the stimulus, the president said in his weekly address on Saturday. Meanwhile, taxes are at their lowest levels in 60 years, according to William Gale, co-director of the Tax Policy Center and director of the Retirement Security Project at the Brookings Institution.

“The relation between what is said in the tax debate and what is true about tax policy is often quite tenuous,” Gale told Hotsheet. “The rise of the Tea Party at at time when taxes are literally at their lowest in decades is really hard to understand.”
