HOW TO RAISE PROERTY VALUES AND DECREASE CRIME….

RESPONSE FROM FRIEND:”I do not think that those states are trying to block votes…. I think it will help prevent fraud. Now do not tell me that there has been no fraud…..I think 99.44% of registered voters have picture IDs. But that is just my humble opinion.”
My friend has a point: Registered or not, Voting or not…, ID or not is a dilemma. It’s difficult to tell.  Many that don’t vote say they are “too busy.”  We know that the more people vote, the better for them, our county, state and our country.  The person that votes feels more involved in the community which can lead to better communities, lower crime rates and increase the value of their homes and rentals.
To make sure we get a majority to vote we need to do a couple of things: 1) Make sure each person is qualified to vote in the state they are in and are helped to get to the voting booth and vote without hindrance if necessary, and 2} Make sure there are plenty of voting booths in all communities that give proper notice and time. Some states don’t place Boothe’s in poor and/or non-white areas. That is  not American, raises crime and lowers property values that spread to other communities in adjourning areas.  Absentee voting with proper time allowed would be great. As Americans, no right is more precious than the constitutional right to select our leaders. Yet many eligible citizens are not even registered to vote. BAD RELIGION: BECAME NATION OF HERETICS?

Ross Douthat, op-ed columnist for The New York Times, contends that Christianity in America has devolved from a once traditional practice to a shadow of its former self, which, according to the author, praises its followers’ self-interests and greed.
Mr. Douthat argues that this concept of “bad religion,” has hurt America’s political and social landscape and posits that heresy has usurped long-held religious beliefs.
Ross Douthat speaks with Barbara Bradley Hagerty, religion correspondent for National Public Radio and Michael Gerson, op-ed columnist for the Washington Post at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

WHY YOU SHOULD OCCUPY YOUR CONGRESSPERSONS……..

The economic gap between average Americans and our elected representatives in Congress has grown tremendously since the 1980s, according to an analysis conducted by The Washington Post.

Between 1984 and 2009, the median net worth of a member of the House more than doubled from $280,000 to $725,000 in inflation-adjusted dollars (excluding home equity). Meanwhile, the wealth of an American family has declined slightly over the same period, from $20,600 to $20,500.

While perhaps unsurprising – this mirrors the growing income inequality gap in the country – the growing divide between legislators and those they are supposed to represent has troubling implications for the health of our democracy. The greater the economic distance between average Americans and our lawmakers, the more our government “of the people, by the people” will become a government “of the 1%, by the 1%.”

THE PROS AND CONS OF THE PUBLIC OPTION…

In “The Perils of the Public Plan,” Paul Starr warns that a public-insurance option could turn into exactly the opposite of what progressives want. Here he discusses the problems with the Prospect‘s two other co-founders, Robert Kuttner and Robert Reich

Paul Starr:
According to last week’s Washington Post, the public option is the “crux” of the health-reform debate and the “greatest challenge” for Senate negotiators to overcome. That’s an accurate description of the current political scene, but it’s true only because so many people, including members of Congress, are responding ideologically to the ideaof government involvement.

The public option is not the biggest question in reform. Under the proposals being considered, it would be offered only within insurance exchanges at the state and regional level. The far bigger question is how those exchanges work:

McCAIN’S WORDS CAUSES GEORGIA TO BE MORE AGGRESSIVE?

Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili on Wednesday called for John McCain and other American leaders to do more for Georgia in their response to the conflict in his country.

“Yesterday, I heard Sen. McCain say, ‘We are all Georgians now,’” Saakashvili said on CNN’s American Morning. “Well, very nice, you know, very cheering for us to hear that, but OK, it’s time to pass from this. From words to deeds.”
