Some Facts About Teens and Sex

Do you know that one in three teen girls in the United States is estimated to get pregnant at least once before age 20? 65 While this is better than a decade ago, when the number was four in ten girls, it is still too high. Pregnancy has very important consequences for teen girls and teen boys, and their children. Having a baby as a teen makes it much harder for a boy or girl to reach their goals, such as finishing high school, going on to college, getting a good job, or getting married when they grow up, and poses additional challenges to the child as well. 66, 67

If a teen girl finds out she is pregnant, she and her parents, and the father of the baby and his parents have some tough decisions to make. None of them are easy:

  • Some teen mothers decide to continue their pregnancy and then choose adoption for their baby. Adoption may be the best choice for the baby and the teen parents. There are many adoption agencies and types of adoption. Some teens are able to meet the parents who wish to adopt the baby.
  • Many teens decide to keep their babies. Some marry the baby’s father and raise their baby together. Sometimes the baby’s grandparents or other family members help raise it so that the teen mother can stay in school and work. But it requires a lot of additional hard work for a teen parent to finish school and get a good job. Children of teen mothers face greater risk of poverty, behavioral problems, poor academic performance, incarceration, and teen pregnancy, sogood parenting skills are very important. 68
  • Some teen pregnancies end in abortion. Abortions can have complications. There may be emotional consequences, as well: some women say that they feel sad and some use more alcohol or drugs than before. 69,70 Some states require teens to have their parent’s permission to get an abortion. To understand the scope of this situation, consider these numbers: In 2002, there were over 750,000 teen pregnancies in the United States,71 including over 215,000 teen abortions. 72

Erik Erikson’s 8 Stages of PsychosocialDevelopment

Stage 8: Maturity

Age: Late Adulthood — 65 years to death

Conflict: Integrity vs. Despair

Important Event: Reflection on
and acceptance of one’s life

Description:

The most important event at this stage is coming to accept one’s whole lifeand reflecting on that life in a positive manner. According to Erikson,achieving a sense of integrity means fully accepting oneself and coming to termswith the death. Accepting responsibility for your life and being able to undothe past and achieve satisfaction with self is essential. The inability to dothis results in a feeling of despair.

Elements for a positive outcome:

The adult feels a sense of fulfillment about life and accepts death as anunavoidable reality.

Elements for a negative outcome:

Individuals who are unable to obtain a feeling of fulfillment andcompleteness will despair and fear death.

Examples:

An aged person may find it necessary to reflect and analyze what they haveaccumulated throughout life and decide what offspring will receive from themupon death.

Fox News Revs Up The Spin Machine To Attack Pelosi And Defend Town Hall Disrupters

Nancy Pelosi, in an op-ed in USA Today, expressed her concern about protesters who are trying disrupt and stop meaningful discourse about health care reform. She made the legitimate point that “drowning out opposing views is un-American.” Not surprisingly, Fox News immediately got their spin machine running at full speed to twist Pelosi’s comment and defend those who are trying to “townhall” congressional representatives at town hall meetings by disrupting the messenger because they don’t like the message. Yup, the same folks who aren’t fans of Code Pink (who are way less rowdy than this crew) and students who protested Bush administration officials are defending those who use the same tactics. We’ve truly gone through the looking glass into an Orwellian bizarro world where black is white and we all love town halling teabaggers who are now being seen as victims of that evil, librul Nancy Pelosi. And un-American? Read on to see the rich irony!!

WHO AND WHAT IS THE FAMILY ON C STREET?

You’ve heard about C Street.  The Family believes that God has chosen them, given them power and money to take over our government.  Forget Health Care, the uninsured, the elderly.  They think they are doing God’s will.  There is so much you need to know about these people so that you can take action.  If good people like you do nothing, EVIL WILL FLOURISH. Following is part of a credible report.-mackie

 

“The Family — which counseled Sen. John Ensign — lives and prays as a fundamentalist group with power at the center of its agenda.

The scandal over Nevada Republican Sen. John Ensign’s extramarital affair with an employee has renewed interest in a secretive fundamentalist Christian group known as The Family, with whom he lives when in Washington, D.C.

Ensign last month admitted to an affair with Cynthia Hampton, whose husband, Doug Hampton, was a top aide to Ensign and his best friend. After Doug Hampton asked The Family to intervene, members confronted Ensign at the group’s house on C Street in Washington.

On Wednesday, the author of a book about The Family was interviewed on KNPR-FM’s public affairs show “State of Nevada.” Author Jeff Sharlet, a contributing editor to Harper’s and Rolling Stone magazines, lived with The Family in early 2002. His book, “The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power,” was published last year by HarperCollins.”

NOW OR NEVER?

We are in an emergency situation where 47 mil. American families including children are without health care, 10s of millions more are being denied and canceled because of their health, and increasing numbers (500,000 losing their jobs a month without health care) are in dire situations because of no health care.  Many 1000s a month are dying because of lack of health care.
 
What would Jesus do?  In depression times crime, suicides and death rates increase.  We have been waiting on health care change since 1994 because white male anglosaxon conservatives opposed an intelligent lady who was trying to bring about health care reform.
 
The American Ship is sinking because we are not looking out for those who have no hope (AS JESUS TAUGHT US).  We must respond no matter what the cost for now so we can save as many as possible while we reform the system.  OUR GREATEST OPPOSITION ARE OUR REPRESENTATIVES WHO ARE TAKING MILLIONS FROM LOBBYISTS TO PROTECT THEIR 30% PROFITS OF INSURANCE COMPANIES (Medicare’s overhead is 3%).
WE HAVE SPENT ALL THESE BILLIONS TO FIGHT A COUNTRY WHO WAS NOT A THREAT TO US (in the former administration we lost over 3,000 lives because the former administration was not at the switch and 10s of thousands of lives because our former president claimed he was ordained by God and was going after the man who tried to assassinate his father).
 
I COULD GO ON BUT THE IDEA THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT TO PROVIDE A BETTER HEALTH PLAN BEFORE WE REFORM IS VERY SUSPICIOUS OF THOSE POLITICIANS WHO STATE THAT.  I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT IF I HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER, FRIEND OR NEIGHBOR (”DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU”) COME HELL OR HIGH WATER, LOSS OF REPUTATION, POSSESSIONS, ETC., I AM GOING TO DO WHAT JESUS TAUGHT ME TO DO.
